In February of this year the Kansas Legislature passed House Bill 2097 which essentially gave the Kansas State Fire Marshal responsibility for the disaster search & rescue system in Kansas. Randy Hill, Midwest Search and Rescue, accepted a position as the Search & Rescue coordinator in Kansas.
"While a lot of work has been done over the last several years to improve the capability in Kansas, we still have a ton of work ahead. I’m looking forward to working with a lot of fantastic people in Kansas and around the country to take Kansas Search & Rescue to the next level. My non-profit company, Midwest Search & Rescue, will continue but in what capacity, I’m not sure yet. Right now things are moving pretty fast. I start on December 14th and after almost 4 years of retirement, you may now occasionally hear me say, 'I’m from the state and I’m here to help!' "
